PACKIALUXMI VASAN
Packialuxmi Vasan is a Canadian lawyer with over 17 years of experience serving refugees, immigrants, and marginalized communities. She earned her Bachelor of Laws from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and, after immigrating to Canada, dedicated her career to supporting newcomers navigating challenges similar to those she faced herself. Luxmi provides legal services in Tamil, English, and Sinhalese.
Before practicing law in Canada, Luxmi worked extensively in the settlement sector, assisting newcomers with legal information, referrals, language support, and access to community resources. Her work included contributions to multilingual hotlines, mental health research initiatives, civic engagement programs, and disaster relief efforts, notably supporting survivors of SARS and the Indian Ocean tsunami. She has long been a strong advocate for Tamil community services.
After accrediting her law degree in Canada, Luxmi joined renowned immigration lawyer Lorne Waldman, where she played a significant role in representing MV Sun Sea asylum seekers in British Columbia. Her dedication and impact have been recognized with the Canadian Bar Association of British Columbia Outstanding Service Award, the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal, and the Uthayan International Leadership Award.
Today, as the principal lawyer at the Law Office of Packialuxmi Vasan, she continues to champion justice through affordable legal services, pro bono work, and advocacy against systemic racism within immigration processes. Outside her legal practice, Luxmi enjoys Bharatanatyam, participating in community debates, and cooking for seniors.
